  Making a Stoneware Teapot

Leather-Hard Assembled Teapot Waits to Dry

The completed leather-hard teapot is next placed,
for a couple of days, in a nonfunctioning refrigerator
which is used as a drying box. This allows the
moisture content of the various attachments
to equalize, to avoid cracking in drying.

Once dry, the piece will be fired to approximately
1750 degrees, in order to make it
less fragile to handle during glazing.

Teapot Taped for Glazing

After bisque firing, the body is masked
with masking tape, and the legs are glazed
with copper red glaze. The glazed legs
are then covered with wax resist and the tape
is removed from the body.
